Section_H New Era plant makes changes STRATTANVILLE Champion Homes closed its New Image housing manufacturing plant in Knox last spring. STRATTANVILLE Champion Homes closed its New Image housing manufacturing plant in Knox last spring. The closing affected more than 150 workers. Champion, which is based in Auburn Hills, Mich., also operates the New Era Building Systems facility in Strattanville. A group of employees from New Image was transferred to New Era to assist with operations associated with the New Image brand. One of the biggest changes that happened at New Era in the last year is that the New Image brand of homes was brought to the Strattanville facility for production, said New Era marketing coordinator Kari Miller. The Knox facility was sold to Ken Swartfager, owner of Swartfager Welding in Beaver Township. Champion purchased both housing manufacturing plants in 2005. New Era was established in 1992 by Elliot Fabri, who has more than 30 years of experience in the building systems industry in a variety of disciplines. It asserts itself as a proven leader and innovator in the modular industry with products shipped from Maine to Wisconsin and as far south as South Carolina. The plant employs about 300 workers. Champion operates 33 manufacturing facilities in North America and the United Kingdom and partners with more than 3,000 independent retailers, builders and developers including approximately 900 retailers that are part of the Champion Home Center retail distribution network. |
